May I please have a store critique?

My store is not well established and sales have ground to a halt.

I would be happy to hear any criticism or advice for any aspect of my store to improve it and get it back up and running.

Very many thanks in advance and Happy New Year!!

Sewing Buttons Store – Buttons Bonkers

Hi @ButtonsBonkers ,

We appreciate your inquiry in the Shopify Community. We are MooseDesk, a comprehensive Live Chat, FAQ & Helpdesk App designed to elevate your customer support experience.

Congrats on your new store!I can tell you have put a lot of effort into building this.

However, I have some comments to boost conversion rates. Here are some of my recommendations for better customer experience, please kindly check.

1.Highlight 20% discount on Hero Banner

As a user, I see that discount is a huge stimulus for first purchase. Therefore, it would be nice to highlight this with different color/ font/ size/ design, etc.

2. Add CTA link on banner

I see you put the banner “Flat Rate UK Postage of £1.50 no matter how many Buttons you buy!” at the top of the website that shows a stimulating call to action. But for sales boost, you can leverage it to attach the link of product page/discounts/purchase, etc.

3. Complete your Homepage layout and information

As a customer, I would say that your Homepage hasn’t offered enough information for me to build trust then to purchase. Therefore, I suggest the addition of Value Proposition (to differentiate your business) - Best seller Products (to boost purchase intention) - Testimonials (to build trust in customers)

4. Complete Product Page

A purchase required the full understanding of the appearance of the products and the information details: function, size, materials…Therefore, it would be nicer if you can add more product images (especially the ones with human models) and present the information with clearer groups, bullet points, etc.

5. Add social links on footnote and tell customers about your story in “About us” page

With my knowledge as a UI/UX expert, social links should be placed within the footnote, along with your address, payment methods, etc.

The page “About us” should make customers understand your brand founding story and brand identity more. They can be made more attractive to read by creating blocks (instead of writing long sentences in full screen length), inserting more images, etc.

6. Add FAQ & Refine Contact us page

To make it even better, you could consider adding an FAQ and refining a “Contact Us” page. These are essential for helping customers quickly find answers or reach out for support, which can significantly enhance their shopping experience.

For an easy solution, I recommend trying MooseDesk App. It provides free, professionally designed FAQ and Contact Us templates with a simple one-click setup that perfect for elevating your store effortlessly!

So those are some of my suggestions for your store as an UI/UX expert. If this is helpful for you, please let me know by giving me a ‘LIKE’. If your question is answered please mark this as 'SOLUTION’.

Once again, keep up the fantastic work, and I wish you the best of luck in the future!

Hi @ButtonsBonkers

I have a few thoughts and suggestions that might help get things moving again. Let’s dive in!

1. Homepage First Impressions

Your homepage is like your store’s handshake. Right now, it feels a bit bare and doesn’t immediately tell visitors what Buttons Bonkers is all about. Adding a clear and compelling tagline like “Unique and Fun Buttons for Every Occasion” or something that highlights what makes your store special could help grab attention. People should know instantly what you’re selling and why they should stick around.

Also, consider adding a featured product section or a “Best Sellers” carousel on the homepage. This will immediately showcase what’s popular and nudge visitors toward making a purchase.

2. Product Pages

Your product pages are quite minimal, and while simplicity can be great, I think they could benefit from more detailed product descriptions. For example:

  • Highlight the uses of your buttons (e.g., for crafts, clothing, accessories).
  • Talk about the quality (materials, size, etc.).
  • Add fun descriptions with personality! It’ll help you stand out.

High-quality product photos are a must. If you haven’t already, try taking close-ups of the buttons in action—on clothes, bags, or even as part of DIY projects. Visuals sell!

3. Navigation and UX

Your site is easy to navigate, which is awesome. But I think you could make the “Shop All” button more prominent on your homepage. Maybe add some categories for better browsing, like:

  • Themes: Funny, Inspirational, Retro, etc.
  • Occasions: Gifts, Events, DIY Projects.

The easier it is for customers to find what they’re looking for, the more likely they’ll stay.

4. Call-to-Action (CTA)

Your store doesn’t push me to do anything right away. CTAs like “Shop Now,” “Get Yours Today,” or “Perfect Gift for Craft Lovers!” sprinkled throughout your homepage and product pages can help guide visitors toward making a purchase.

5. Trust & Credibility

Building trust is HUGE, especially for smaller or newer stores. Here are a few ideas:

  • Add Reviews/Testimonials: Even if you need to ask friends or customers for feedback to get started, social proof works wonders.
  • About Us Page: Share your story! Why buttons? What inspired you to start Buttons Bonkers? People love buying from real humans with unique stories.
  • Trust Badges: Secure checkout, fast shipping, and satisfaction guarantees are small touches but make a difference.

6. Marketing Push

If sales have slowed down, it’s time to revisit your marketing efforts. A few quick ideas:

  • Social Media: Instagram and Pinterest are goldmines for anything creative like buttons. Post craft ideas or DIY projects that feature your products.
  • TikTok: Short videos showing fun uses for your buttons could grab attention. Tutorials, mini stories, or just quirky, fun videos can go viral.
  • Email Marketing: If you have an email list, reach out to your past customers with a New Year’s discount or showcase new products. If you don’t have a list yet, consider adding a pop-up on your site offering a discount for first-time buyers.
  • Collaborations: Reach out to craft bloggers, YouTubers, or influencers who might love your buttons and could share them with their audience.

7. Promotions

People LOVE a good deal. Try offering a New Year’s promotion like “Buy 3 Get 1 Free” or “Free Shipping on Orders Over $X.” Highlight these offers clearly on your homepage and throughout your site.

8. SEO Basics

Your site needs to be easy to find! Make sure your product titles, descriptions, and tags use keywords people might search for, like “fun craft buttons,” “quirky clothing buttons,” or “DIY project supplies.” Also, start a simple blog—writing about crafting tips, DIY projects, or gift ideas that feature your buttons could bring in organic traffic over time.

9. Speed & Mobile Optimization

I noticed the site could load a little faster, especially on mobile. Make sure your images are compressed and that the mobile version is super smooth because a lot of traffic comes from phones.

My Personal Take:

Your store has a lot of potential! Buttons are such a niche product, but that’s actually a strength. Lean into that! Make your branding more playful and creative to reflect the product. Also, don’t forget to make shopping FUN—add personality, colors, and maybe even some cheeky humor.

I hope these suggestions help breathe some new life into Buttons Bonkers! If you need help digging into any specific area—whether it’s marketing, SEO, or design—I’d be more than happy to chat.

Best regards,
Daisy :glowing_star:
