Hello,
Currently stuck in our Shopify migration process due to needing to move payment tokens from Netsuite to Shopify for active subscriptions. We have all other pieces in place but have not identified a way to officially migrate the tokens.
The active subscriptions have payment tokens stored in NetSuite for the WindCave gateway. WindCave is a one-way gateway and does not support token migration, which is the core of our challenge.
Is it possible to migrate the tokens from NetSuite to Shopify?
If yes, is there a process to bulk import these existing third-party gateway tokens into Shopify? We need to avoid having all customers re-enter their payment details for subscription continuity. We are specifically asking if a programmatic import option exists for enterprise migrations, either into Shopify Payments or a compatible gateway like WindCave.
Any confirmation or guidance is appreciated.
Hi there,
You’re running into a common challenge with enterprise subscription migrations. Unfortunately, Shopify and most gateways cannot import third-party payment tokens directly due to PCI compliance and security restrictions. Tokens are highly sensitive and are generally not transferable between platforms or gateways.
For WindCave specifically, since it’s a one-way gateway, there isn’t an official programmatic method to bulk import tokens into Shopify or Shopify Payments. The usual options are:
Customer re-authorization — sending a secure link for customers to update their payment details so subscriptions continue without disruption.
Gateway-supported migration tool — some gateways offer hosted token migration or payment update flows; it’s worth contacting WindCave support to see if such an option exists for enterprise clients.
While there isn’t a direct import solution, I help businesses plan subscription migrations in a way that minimizes friction for customers and ensures continuity of recurring payments. If you want, I can share a step-by-step approach for migrating active subscriptions safely and efficiently
