I found a customer email in my junk folder claiming that they had placed and paid for an order but never received a confirmation email. I don’t have an order under that name.
How do I know if this is an actual customer?

Multiple store owners are receiving suspicious emails from individuals claiming they placed orders but never received confirmation emails. However, no corresponding orders exist in their systems.

Current status:
Merchants suspect these are fraudulent attempts rather than legitimate customer inquiries. One merchant blocked the sender and plans to contact the actual account holder. The group is seeking Shopify’s input on whether this represents a coordinated scam pattern.

I too have received today 10/3/24 an email just like this. I have no purchase order in the name of this customer & they do not state what product or date of purchase. Can Shopify weigh in on this topic/thread as it does not appear to be a genuine customer enquiry.
Today I received the same Email. It comes from Indonesia. I restricted delivery to Indonesia. So it should technically not possible to place an order.
Did anyone reply to one of this mails?
I dont get the logic behind this emails.
I just received one of these as well but the email address was from a registered customer email started 6 years ago but never had an order placed. When I asked them to provide details they said I was scamming them and they would be reporting my business. I asked them to call me or I would call the number associated with the account. They replied with a screen shot from an Etsy order that has nothing to do with my business and it was layered over my replies. Seems very sketchy so I blocked them and will be calling the customer to inform them I believe their email was used without their knowledge.
