Potential Conversion Bottlenecks

Topic summary

A store owner running Pinterest ads for three weeks to an astronomy-themed Shopify store has received significant traffic but zero sales, despite believing their product pages are well-optimized for conversions.

Key Issues Identified:

  • Layout Problem: Excessive blank space on the left side of the product page creates a broken appearance, potentially damaging visitor trust

  • SEO Technical Issues:

    • Duplicate H1 tags detected on product pages (should only have one)
    • Missing alt text on product images, preventing proper Google indexing and discoverability
    • Overly long meta descriptions (should be 100-200 characters for optimal display in search results)

Current Status: The discussion remains open with no resolution. While the original poster focused on conversion rate optimization (CRO), respondents suggest the problem may stem from technical SEO issues and trust-damaging design flaws rather than the conversion elements themselves. Regular SEO audits are recommended to identify overlooked optimization opportunities.

For the past 3 weeks I have been running (Pinterest Ads) to my astronomy themed Shopify store and unfortunately despite getting tons of traffic I haven’t had a single sale. Now as someone who is obsessed about conversion rate optimisation (CRO) I believe my product pages are very optimised to convert, so it puzzles me as to my Pinterest ads haven’t generated any sales despite having what I believe to be close to perfect product pages optimised to convert. Is there anything I am missing?

My Product Page: https://astronomyvault.com/products/nordic-astronaut-phone-stand-spaceman-desk-holder-for-office-decor-cute-mobile-bracket-unique-gift-for-men-kids?_pos=3&_psq=astro&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Is there anything on my product page that could be a major conversion bottleneck, explaining the lack of sales from Pinterest ads? because so far I don’t understand what could possibly make someone reluctant to buy.

Hi @Daniel1497

Not sure about the conversions. But the very first thing I noticed is that you have insane amount of blank space on the left of the page. That looks really suspicious and like the site is breaking. Probably losing the trust of the customer.

Hi @Daniel1497

I can feel that your store conversion rate is mostly from Pinterest Ads. But apart from it, your store page SEO also matters here as it is the key point of attracting visitors and staying longer. Based on SEO, I have found out something unusual. Here are the details collected below for your reference:

  1. You have two H1 tags on product pages, which is unusual. Normally, we have one H1 tag only on web pages. There must exist a duplicated one on the backend, please double-check and locate the additional H1 tag to change into H2.

  1. When customers see your product images on Pinterest, most of them will prefer to have a check and take a look on search engines like Google. However, I notice most of your product images are lack of alt texts, which is the content Google used to understand and index. If you fail to add them properly, your images may not connect with page contents properly. It is suggested to optimize this part and it will affect your page sales in some way. Below image URLs are what I find after further checking, kindly note here please:

  1. Excessive meta description content. You can find out this issue when searching on Google and it will prevent your customers from viewing full content instantly. Please shorten them within 100-200 characters and it will give a better user experience accordingly.

Moreover, constantly doing SEO Check on your store will be quite helpful, and you should have a try as it can detect out lots of elements you may ignore or miss and after spending some time optimizing, your website will run under a better status!

I just have a simple question: can I make this site on Shopify? Is it possible https://bottleneckcheck.com/
