Product Automatically joined the wrong collection

Topic summary

A product was appearing in the Shopify “Ladies” collection without being manually added, and it could not be removed. An image was provided showing the product linked to the “Ladies” collection.

A reply clarified the difference between manual and automated collections: automated collections add products based on rules (e.g., tags, title, price). The advice was to review the collection’s rules or adjust the product’s properties.

The original poster stated the “Ladies” collection uses a single rule: Title contains “ladies”, and the product title does not contain that term.

Workaround: The product was deleted and re-added with the same properties; after re-adding, it no longer joined the “Ladies” collection.

Outcome: The immediate issue was resolved via a workaround, but the root cause remains unidentified. No definitive fix or changes to collection rules were reported; the discussion remains open for the underlying cause.

I have a product that is automatically joining the wrong collection even though I have not selected it to be included in the said collection.

As you can see the Ladies collection is being automatically assigned to the product and I don’t want it to be like that!

How can I delete the product from the collection… I have tried to remove it but no luck.

In manual collections, you can manually join and remove products.

You said the product automatically joined the collection, so what we have here should be an automated collection.

Look at the rules for this automated collections (is it based on tags, name, price, etc?) and either change the rule or change the related property of your product.

Dear Ole,

That is the issue, it is not listed on the automatic entries I gave in the ladies collection. The only entry I gave to the collection is Title contains ladies, and the product’s title does not contain ladies.

As a solution if we can call it so, or better say workaround, I had to delete the product and add it again with the same properties.
This time it did not include in the ladies collection automatically.
