Shopify 500 Error

Topic summary

A widespread Shopify outage is preventing merchants globally from accessing their admin panels, with users reporting 500 errors across multiple regions including Australia (Adelaide, Melbourne), the United States (Oakland, California), and other locations.

Key Issues:

  • Admin panel completely inaccessible across web and mobile platforms
  • Shopify POS systems also affected
  • Multiple stores managed by single users all experiencing the same problem
  • Outage began around 6:30pm Central Time on June 5, 2025

User Frustrations:

  • Shopify’s status page initially showed no issues, delaying acknowledgment of the problem
  • Critical business operations blocked: product imports, promotion management, stock alterations, and order processing
  • Users report this is a recurring issue with Shopify’s infrastructure
  • Support typically suggests client-side fixes (clearing cache, different browsers) despite server-side errors

Attempted Workarounds:

  • Shopify mobile app initially appeared to work better than web interface but subsequently crashed completely
  • Standard troubleshooting steps ineffective for 500 errors

Resolution:
After approximately 1.5+ hours, the status page was updated and service appears to be restored, though users remain concerned about reliability and lack of compensation for downtime.

Yes and very annoying and inconvenient when Shopify Status page says all good! Worse even when you are importing products and need to manage them NOW such as in my case.

Are the Shopify dev asleep :-? Do they ever know about this ? Very unprofessional and concerning to say the least esp when the status page says nothing!

same here – on all four shopify stores we manage

shopify “support” may try to blow smoke about deleting cookies/history/cache, using a different browser, using incognito window, etc. – none of this works, and the 500 error means it’s on shopify’s side…though they never take responsibly for it, never train “support” staff to actually provide support, and can’t even keep their own status page up to date

these are recurring (not rare) issues with shopify – definitely do not recommend shopify to anyone

I’m so inconvenienced too. Shopify should compensate us for this! I know it’s in my dreams only lol.

Not sure if this is any help but I am able to get a little further using the Shopify app than the webpage, so you could try using that to disable your promotion. Still not loading orders & in-and-out of connection there though. So frustrating!

After posting this, the app started crashing completely

Hope this gets solved ASAP, we can’t afford to lose sales/precious time altering stock.

1.5 hours in and still total system outage here. Shopify and ShopifyPOS. All devices, from our iPads to our Windows PCs, cell phones, and even the usually solid Shopify Go handheld. Nothing works. This is such a huge critical failure.

I think that’s just due to the app keeping offline files but you can’t actually do anything you can’t do on desktop. Try refreshing any page on the app and you get the 500 error. At least I’m sure for the Products admin.

It seems to be back. Let’s hope it functions fully well.
