So we have been using Shopify for over 3 years and all of a sudden we are getting payouts of .for example a $12.72 order I am getting .24 in my payout. I have never had a reserve on my account and according to their terms for what falls under the reasons for a reserve we don’t have it. It’s insanely frustrating that they are holding money I need for bills and supplies when they never have before. It also is saying the payout for the funds held is 11/12/2099?! Wtf? I contacted support earlier today but this is really bothersome and am wondering if I need to go back to another provider
Topic summary
- Sudden drastic reserves on Shopify Payments: payouts reduced to cents (e.g., a $12.72 order paid out $0.24), with most funds held.
- Accounts previously had no reserve; users say they do not meet Shopify’s stated reserve criteria. No prior notice or explanation was provided.
- The payout schedule shows a far-future date for the held balance (11/12/2099), interpreted as an error or an indefinite hold.
- A “reserve” here means the processor withholds funds to mitigate risk (e.g., chargebacks), but users report no change in their risk profile and long-standing account history.
- Actions: users have contacted support and are waiting for answers; one is considering switching payment providers due to cash-flow impacts on bills and supplies.
- Status: unresolved and possibly broader in scope, as multiple shops report the same behavior. Key questions about cause, scope, and a timeline for releasing funds remain unanswered.
The same thing is happening to my shop… No idea what is going on. I’m on hold with support and its frustrating. There was no notification or anything I just noticed it.
