Shopify Notifications - How to get an email alert when there is a chargeback request?

Hey All,

Snooping around different forums to try and get an answer for this but have not been able to find a good solution. I manage three Shopify stores, and am trying to automate certain processes by getting email alerts when certain things happen.

One of these things I want to set up alerts for is when chargebacks are opened. I know when you log into the Shopify store, there is a notice that show that there are new chargeback requests, but I wish there was a simple way to get an email notification so that I don’t have to be constantly logging in to check.

Anyone have any ideas or solutions here? Even third party applications. I get the sense that Shopify does not care too much about notifications.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there @kyguy . I’m happy to help you out with this!

Currently if you recieve a chargeback an email notification is sent to your Store contact email address. You can find this email address on your end by going to Settings > Store details > Contact information > Store contact email like in the screenshot below. You would receive a new email to the email address listed there any time one of these chargeback related events occurs:

  • When a new dispute is received
  • When disputes are won and lost
  • When disputes require new evidence
  • When evidence is submitted to the card issuer

If you don’t receive a chargeback notification this may be because the chargeback was accepted right after it was created. In this case we won’t send a notification. This will also happen for orders that are protected by fraud protect since the Account Owner would not need to get involved in this case.

What other email alerts and notifications are you trying to set up? Also, which plan are you using for your stores at the moment?

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Is there a way to setup notifications for others besides the store contact? Ideally I would like different individuals working on different sections not seeing everything that gets sent to the store contact.

Hi, @lesyk009 . Can you tell me more about the types of notifications you want to send and who you want to receive them? Also, is there any information in particular you’d like to keep private? I’m just asking to make sure I’m giving you helpful advice going forward.

You can currently set up your order notifications so that they are sent directly to your staff instead of only using the ‘store contact’ email. This can be done by going to Settings > Notifications in your Shopify admin and scrolling down to the Staff order notifications section. There, you’ll see the setting to add new recipients. If you’re looking for a way to manage other types of notifications, there may be options I can suggest for that as well with more information. If you’re looking for more control over what people see in your store’s Shopify admin I’d also recommend reading through this guide on staff permissions.

Please let me know if you have any questions! This guide on notifications can help in the meantime as well.
