Someone has used my gmail address to spam multiple shops on Shopify asking things like “I would like to know more about your store”. Shop owners are replying to these inquiries and I am getting several of their replies per day in my gmail account. I just figured out they are all Shopify related. I did not have a Shopify account before today, to my knowledge. I created one just now in order to try to figure out what is happening. Can someone please help me track down what is going on? Is there another account with my username and email address here? Has this happened to anyone else and how do I stop it? Thank you.

Hey @debbyflorence

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this issue with your Gmail address being used for spamming Shopify shops. While I can’t directly investigate or take actions on your behalf, I can provide you with some general guidance on what you can do to address the situation:

  1. Verify your own Shopify account: Since you created a Shopify account, check if there is any other account associated with your email address. Log in to your Shopify account and review the settings and information associated with it.

  2. Contact Shopify support: Reach out to Shopify’s customer support and explain the situation. Inform them that your email address is being used without your consent to send spam inquiries to Shopify shops. They will be able to investigate further and provide assistance in resolving the issue. You can contact Shopify support through their website using live chat, email, or phone options.

  3. Change your password and enable two-factor authentication: Ensure that your Gmail account has a strong, unique password. Consider enabling two-factor authentication for an extra layer of security. This will help protect your account from unauthorized access.

  4. Block or filter incoming emails: Within your Gmail settings, you can set up filters or rules to automatically direct emails from specific addresses or containing certain keywords to spam or trash folders. This can help manage the influx of spam emails you’re receiving.

  5. Educate shop owners: If you receive any replies from shop owners, you can politely respond and inform them that someone is misusing your email address for spamming purposes. Ask them to disregard any further communication from that email address.

Remember, it’s important to contact Shopify support directly as they have the necessary tools and resources to investigate and resolve issues related to their platform.

Best Regards,
Moeed

I am in the same situation as described by ‘debbyflorence’ above. I wonder if Shopify stores actually validate email addresses being provided by customers during registration process, if not that is something news worth. I am getting so much spam from ‘shopifyemail.com’ domain these days, just because someone - from a different continent - was able to register using my gmail address.

I have been notifying individual stores as soon I get any notification from them but that hasn’t worked. It is practically impossible to notify individual stores, and blocking/filtering shopify emails is not a solution for me.
