Transfer domain from closed Shopify account to another active account

Closed my store on this account around 6 months ago and now want the domain to my new active shop. Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks for reaching out. If the domain you wish to use is still assigned to the store you closed, you’d need to contact Shopify support so that the domain can be removed from the old store and is then freed up to be used on your new one. Our support team will authenticate you on the account and will ask you to provide proof of ownership of the domain, after which they will be able to assist you.

I am in a similar situation as the original poster. I am trying to transfer my domain from my old inactive account to my current active account. I referred to the link you posted above, however, I am only sent to the help center. Any help would need greatly appreciated.

If you head to the link I’ve shared and enter in your issue or topic, then you’ll be presented with some relevant documentation on the Help Center as well as option to contact support at the bottom of the page. I would recommend doing that for this issue as we would likely need to authenticate your account to assist with this issue, which can only be done when you reach out to our support via callback, live chat, or email. These contact options are available to you when you go through the Help Center.

Hi there, I have the same problem. It’s really frustrating that I cannot use my domain name since I paid for it. My Shopify account is closed and it’s telling me I have to pay to get back in simply so I can transfer the domain name that I paid for to another provider. Please help me to transfer the domain name, it is very irritating, and I feel like Shopify scammed me.

Thank you for getting in touch and for detailing your problem. Did you buy the domain directly through Shopify, or did you purchase it from a third-party domain provider? Did you close your store yourself or was the store closed due to any unpaid invoices?

If you bought the domain from Shopify and closed the store on your own accord, we will likely be able to issue you a short trial so that you can access the store and transfer the domain away from Shopify to another domain host. You can contact our support team here and authenticate yourself on your store, after which our team will be able to look into this in more detail for you.
