Where can I find the Venmo payment option on Shopify?

Where is the option to use Venmo on shopify? I see the logo for Venmo at the bottom of the page but not when I do a test buy. When I get to checkout there is no option for Venmo.

Thanks for your help.

Hey @Keatseye .

Thanks for reaching out.

Could you let us know where your online store is located?

In order to use Venmo on your Shopify store, you will need to have PayPal enabled as a payment gateway. The reason for this is because Venmo is a Supported PayPal provider and is only available US merchants during this time. If you are a merchant in the United States, and have PayPal Express Checkout enabled in your checkout, then Venmo will appear as an accelerated payment option on your store.

Looking forward to your response.

My shop is located in Easthampton, MA, USA. I’ve been on Shopify for 8
years so yes–of course, PayPal is enabled as is express checkout option.

I spent an hour with Shopify tech yesterday and while they determined I
needed to “activate online purchases” in the Venmo app - specifically for
my customers to buy FROM my shop - we could find no option to do this.
Very frustrating.

Now I’m waiting for Venmo support to get back to me.
Thanks for any advice you have,
Sami

Hey @Keatseye .

Thanks for the quick response.

I am sorry to hear about the difficulty of setting this up. Since your online store is located in the US and you do in fact have the PayPal gateway enabled on your store. The option for Venmo should be displayed within the Shopify checkout as an accelerated checkout button.

In this case, I think the best option would be to reach out to Venmo support to see if your account requires additional verification or another step to have accept online purchases from your Shopify store.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks Ollie–

I appreciate your help. I have reached out to Venmo and am waiting to hear
back.

When I learn how to activate their online purchase service I will post it
on the Shopify community board and the FB page you run. Such good resources
for us Shopifiers.
Best,
Sami

I spent an hour with Shopify tech Sunday 8/7 and they determined I

Thanks so much for your follow up.

Hi Keatseye.

I have been going through the same exact song and dance for a week now. I’ve spoken to at least a dozen support specialists and none of them have been able to help me. I’m just curious if you ever found an actual solution? Thanks.

Hi there–

What I found out from multiple Venmo and Shopify experts is that Venmo has
no human customer service so there is no way to get the question answered
since it is so specific.

I just dropped it and went forward with what I was doing at the time which
was to apply for the $10k Small Business Grant that Venmo was offering. And
that was a good process although I did not get it. Only 20 people were
awarded and they looked like very worthy businesses.

Now I am dealing with Shopify who - it appears - no longer has human
customer service. I’m having an issue where they keep saying my payment
method for my Shopify Basic plan is not going through and they are holding
my sales $$$ until it is resolved. My credit card company said that NO
ATTEMPT was made to charge my card from Shopify so now I need to talk with
a customer service rep and it is futile - they do not exist.

I’ve been on the Shopify platform for 8 years and until now I thought it
was brilliant. I could ALWAYS get through to a real person for the
occasional times I needed tech or other support. I think the company may
have been sold. Have you heard anything about a transfer of ownership?

Thanks for being in touch.

Hi Sami,

I think they may have gave you incorrect information again, cause I know for a fact both Venmo and Shopify have human customer support. I spoke with both this past week.

Sorry to hear you never got it figured out and you didn’t get the grant. I haven’t heard anything about a transfer of ownership, but then again, I am new to the platform.

We could not get this working either. Most people in Hawaii use Venmo. So if you can please help us.

Hi Fatima, I’m sorry, but I’m actually still looking for the answer myself. I’ve almost given up at this point and started looking for alternatives.

Got it. I can’t find any solution. We want to see VENMO on checkout and NOT PAYPAL

Sorry but there is no help to give on this issue.

I spoke at length (al told several hours) to Shopify, Venmo and PayPal (who
owns Venmo) tech support back in August and no one could figure it out.

They are no doubt working on it. But in America Shopify provides so many
payment options Venmo is not sought after by customers.

Just another incidence of corporate greed and an unwillingness to do what
vendors need for their customers. Even getting tech support on chat was a
real accomplishment. These companies do not want to pay humans to do
customer service. Shopify is the most disappointing of all.

But - don’t give up hope because eventually this issue will become a bottom
line issue for these companies and the developers will fix the problem.

Good luck to you and enjoy the holidays!
Sami

Thanks. Same to you!

Hi Sami, I came across this thread when trying to figure out how to make the Venmo payment option more

visible (still looking.) But, here is how to get to it: you have to add to cart, then go to checkout and eventually you will get to express payment options where you can click on “more”, and then finally venmo pops up. You may have already found this but I thought I would pop it in here for anyone still looking. It should be WAY more

visible though. P.S. I used to live in Easthampton so this post caught my eye.

Hey there–

That’s kind of you to send this info. And I do hope it helps others if they
need it.

For me I worked with PayPal and Venmo for hours and when I realized that
neither Venmo reps nor parent company PayPal had a clue how to make Venmo
function as a payment option on my Shopify site I gave up.

It is active on your site, when using mobile at least, if I was at the right one - detour books?
