I keep getting a server error when I’m trying to add the description on a product page. I tried clearing my cookies and browser, then I went incognito mode, then I tried using Safari instead of Chrome and nothing worked. I keep getting this server error and it’s not letting me advance with the product descriptions for the store.
Topic summary
Persistent “Server Error” appears when adding product descriptions or making any changes in the Shopify admin. The issue has lasted 3 days, affects all products, and shows as a small red box at the bottom of the screen. Attempts to fix (clearing cookies/cache, using incognito, switching from Chrome to Safari) did not help.
Community suggestions focus on troubleshooting and isolating the cause:
- Check internet stability and try a different device or network to rule out local issues.
- Verify if Shopify has maintenance or outages via the official Shopify Status page (log in to see store-specific impact).
- Temporarily disable third‑party apps to test for conflicts.
- Re-clear cache/cookies (already attempted) and retry later in case it’s a transient error.
Shopify support requested more details: duration, whether it affects other changes, scope across products, and a screenshot of the error. The poster confirmed it occurs for any change and all products, with the red “Server Error” notification.
Status: Unresolved. Next steps include providing a screenshot, checking the Shopify Status page, testing on different device/network, and disabling apps. A platform-side issue is possible given the broad impact.
Hello @Tina25 ,
Greetings! I am Gina from the flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $5Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.
If you’re experiencing a server error when trying to add a product description in your Shopify store, there may be a few different reasons why this is happening.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take.
-
Check your internet connection
Make sure you have a stable internet connection before attempting to add product descriptions in your Shopify store. -
Check if there is any maintenance or outage
Sometimes, Shopify may be undergoing maintenance or experiencing outages that can affect your ability to add product descriptions. Check the Shopify status page to see if there are any known issues. -
Try using a different device or network
If the issue persists, try using a different device or network to see if this solves the problem. -
Check if there is a third-party app conflict
If you have any third-party apps installed in your Shopify store, try disabling them temporarily to see if they are causing the issue. -
Clear your cache and cookies
Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies to see if this helps resolve the issue.
It’s also worth noting that sometimes server errors can be temporary and may resolve on their own. If the issue persists, try again later to see if you’re able to add the product descriptions without any errors.

Hi @Tina25 ,
Thanks for reaching out, and I’m sorry to hear about the trouble. I’d be happy to help steer you in the right direction to receive assistance with this!
How long has this issue been occurring? Does it happen if make any other changes to the product page, apart from the product description? Does it happen with all products? Is the server error you are receiving a small red box that says ‘Server Error’? Do you have a screenshot of this error? Once I have more information, I can dig deeper into this for you and try and figure out a solution.
Please let me know if you have any further questions!
Hi Iris, it’s been happening for 3 days now. I logged back in today to try to add a description and the server error is still appearing. It happens if I try to make a change anywhere on shopify. It’s happening with all the products. It’s a small red box that appears at the bottom and says “Server Error.”
