Why do my products constantly oversell on my e-commerce platform?

I regularly have products oversell and go into minus figures on the quantity. The option for selling when out of stock isn’t on, it shouldn’t be happening and it’s becoming very frequent.

im not the only person having this issue, lots of my small business friends are also experiencing it so it’s definitely a Shopify error.

How can this be resolved? It’s causing me a lot of problems, I’m frequently having to refund customers and it’s making me want to move away from Shopify to another e-commerce site.

Thanks

Hi @Thescentedlife , which theme are you using? There is a solution for this, but it requires some development. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi,

I think it’s called debut?

Well, @Thescentedlife , debut theme has this part of code by default (checking quantity on your product pages), have you changed something in your code?

you should have this in your product-template.liquid file.
Do you have some app installed that is controlling your inventory? Take a look at this.

No, I haven’t changed the code or anything like that and I only have the one online store, no POS linked etc so there’s no reason why it should be overselling.

@Thescentedlife - have you found a solution to this issue? We are facing the same issue with our current e-commerce platform and we are investigating if Shopify has a solution for this, so we can switch. I’d appreciate any feedback :-).

@germansunbr8 We’re in the same boat as yourself. Have you received helpful feedback or replies from Shopify in regards to the overselling issue some users are/were experiencing?

Hi @Thescentedlife I know it’s been a while since this post, but I was wondering if you and/or your friends were still experiencing this issue.

Hi, yes it is due to an overlap with buy now pay later methods. So when two customers are checking out but one uses something like clearpay or Klarna, there’s a delay in the payment being made but the stocks still taken off the website for them. Shopify can’t do anything about it annoyingly

Thanks for the info! Those Buy Now Pay Later options should be a benefit to your business, not a headache.
