How can I effectively use a currency converter on a tight budget?

Hi:

I really need someone to help me, i contacted shopify support but they were not useful, they only tell me I have to upgrade my plan, which it’s something I won’t do, i’m on a low budget and I’m on the $29.99 plan and No Sales! So it’s absurd to pay for a more expensive plan!

I only ship to Canada, but I wanted to ship to US as well, but this is what they told me:

  1. Reporting : With switching between currencies, our reporting doesn’t factor in the difference between currencies. So if you had $500 USD processed, that would show as $500 in reports. Say the next day you switch to EUR, the report would still read as €500 for previous processing. Since $1 CAD is not equal to €1 USD, the reports in theory will be wrong. To get around this later, you can set a date range for the data you are viewing to exclude any transactions processed in the previous currency after the change.

  2. Product Pricing : Since the value between currencies is not the same, a product price’s value could mean something different if currency is adjusted. Ex - $20 CAD, is not equal to €20.

  3. Shipping : Any shipping rates will maintain the previous currency and will not update automatically. After a currency change, you will need to delete the previous rates and add them back in manually to list them in the new currency.

  4. Apps : Some apps may have limitations when it comes to changing selling currency. To find out how changing currency will affect your apps, you can reach out to the App developers to clarify before changing the selling currency.

So i’m screwed then? As you see in the photo I attached, There are 2 different currency bars, one from an App I downloaded and the other one from Shopify Markets … I wanted to remove the shopify one, and thats when they said I have to upgrade! It’s very irritating because I’m guessing that Shopify’s currency is the one my store will follow and not the one from the app, right? So there’s no point of downloading an external app to convert prices to the customer’s currency. Does anyone know what I mean?

I tried to remove Shopify payments from the store’s page, but im guessing the checkout wont work if I deactivate that, right? Well, I tried and the currency bar didn’t disappear, it’s still there :sob: :sob: :sob: this is so irritating and frustrating,I think my store is cursed, Ive been trying to make it work for 2 years and no luck ??

Is anyone able to help me? I keep getting so many links, but nothing works for me.

Hey @ElOcasoApparel ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I’m happy to provide some guidance and work to getting this resolved. To ensure I’m fully understanding, are you looking to change the shops currency (i.e from CAD to USD)? Or are you looking to sell in both CAD and USD?

The points you noted are considerations to take before adjusting the shops currency as opposed to selling in multiple currencies. Depending on what you’re looking to do, you can:

Sell in Multiple Currencies

Sell in multiple currencies with ease, through Shopify Markets. The features available within Shopify Markets, will depend on whether or not Shopify Payments is being used.

In the case you are using Shopify Payments as a payment gateway, you will have access too the following features:

If you’re utilizing an alternative payment provider (i.e not Shopify Payments) you will continue to have access to Shopify Markets, but will be limited to the following features:

If not using Shopify Payments, you can still enable Multiple Currencies which will allow customers to browse and shop in their preferred currency but will be required to check out in the shops default currency.

Additionally, you can look to our list of Alternative Payment Providers to allow for customers to check out successfully without using Shopify Payments. We currently have over 100 credit card providers around the world!

Adjust Store Currency
If you’d like to switch the shops currency located under Settings > Store Details, you can certainly reach back out to our Live Support to get this adjusted.

It’s important to take note of the points you outlined before making this change, as this may have an impact on the shops apps, reporting, shipping, etc. For more information on this, you can refer to our Store Currency Helpdoc as it goes over this in further details.

Please let me know if you have any other questions here as I’m happy to assist and/or provide any needed clarification!
