How can I fix the err_too_many_redirects error on my website?

When you encounter this error message when attempting to visit your website, the next best step is to inspect your domain. In order for a domain to work properly and be connected to your Shopify store, it needs to have the following information in its DNS settings:

  • An A record that points to the Shopify IP address 23.227.38.65.
  • A CNAME record that points to shops.myshopify.com.

If you have a Shopify domain, you can follow the steps below to view or edit your domain’s DNS settings.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. Click Manage beside the domain in question.
  3. Click DNS Settings.
    • To add a DNS record, click Add custom record, select the record type that you want to add, and enter the required details for the record. Click Confirm.
    • To edit a DNS record, click Actions > Edit for the record that you want to change. Edit the details for the record, and then click Confirm.

If you have a third-party domain, you can contact your domain provider’s support team for assistance in checking or editing the DNS settings.

If your Shopify domain has the required DNS settings but is still causing the err_too_many_redirects error, please visit https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V and create a support request so our support team can access your account and remove it on your behalf. For third-party domains, you can follow the steps below to remove them.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. In the Third-party domains section, select the domain that you want to remove.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • If your account is on the Basic Shopify plan, then click Remove.
    • If your account is on the Shopify, Advanced Shopify, or Shopify Plus plan, then click Manage > Remove.
  4. Click Remove again to confirm.

After you’ve removed the Shopify or third-party domain, please add it back with the following steps:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. Click Connect existing domain.
  3. Enter the domain and proceed through the prompted steps.

Removing and adding the domain after ensuring it has the correct DNS settings will resolve the issue.
