How do I cancel or pause my subscription?
I was invited by another person to his store and to be able to explore the platform i have to connect my credit card.
But how do I cancel now my account/remove my credit card?
UX is just terrible, I do not see any button or settings where I could delete my personal account data
If your store is currently on an active plan with the first invoice paid, you have the option to pause your store and continue working on it at a reduced rate ($14 USD or less per month depending on your region). This is an ideal option if you would like to take some time to decide whether youâd like to carry on with building your store. To go onto the Pause and Build plan, you can follow the steps below.
Log in to your store as the store owner.
From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Plan.
Click Deactivate store > Pause and build plan.
Carefully review the plan details, and then click Switch to Pause and build.
The checkout, POS, discounts, abandoned checkout recovery, gift cards, and third-party integrations such as Facebook and Google will not be available on the Pause and Build plan, but you can access your admin to build your store.
If you decide to close your store, you can deactivate it and cancel your subscription. This can be done through the following steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Plan.
Click Deactivate store.
If applicable, review the options to switch to the Pause and build plan, or start a new store.
If you still want to deactivate, then click Deactivate store.
Select a reason for the deactivation, and then click Continue.
Enter your password, and then click Deactivate now
Your data will be stored for 2 years after closing your store to give you an opportunity to reopen it and pick up where you left off if you decide to do so. If youâre set on permanently closing your store and removing your data, you can create a support ticket by visiting https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V to request to have this done by our support advisors after you follow the steps above.
What was the reason behind your decision to leave our platform? Donât hesitate to share your feedback as Iâd love to pass this along to our platform development team. Feel free to send it through and any other questions you have about your store. Thanks!
I need help going back to my store page so I can cancel my store and start from scratch. but they do not show me the settings button, and Iâve tried everything. please can you help me
Iâd love to help you out and resolve the issue thatâs preventing you from closing your store. Could you please share more details about the issue youâre experiencing so I have a better understanding of it? If you have screenshots that show the absence of the Settings button, it would help me quickly find a solution.
Feel free to share any relevant information here and Iâll find a fix then. Thanks!
Rest assured that your store data is maintained for 2 years, as noted in our Help Center. We do always recommend creating a physical backup of your store data whenever possible though. Exporting your customers, products and theme file, as well as making copies of any content like blogs or additional pages is always a good idea. You can find out more about backing up your store data on the Help Center link I provided above.
I put stores on pause / deactivate and still trying to charge. Canât get logged in after trying to reset password. I was trying a couple stores and am 99% sure I cancelled or deactivated all the stores after $1.00 trial period. Filed complaint with PayPal to escalate the issue. In the meantime, I put the subscription on an expired credit card and every 3 days, rather than canceling the store, Shopify tries to billfor $39.00âŚTrying to get $195 refunded that Shopify owes me. DONâT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU HAVE PRODUCT READY TO GO!
Thanks for adding your feedback to this thread. Iâm happy to provide some assistance with this, to ensure it gets resolved.
If youâre unable to access your shop, you will want to connect with us directly. This will allow our support team to get you authenticated, as we wouldnât have access to any account details here through the Community. They will be able to take a closer look and ensure the shop mentioned is successfully deactivated. This is also where you can make a refund request!
To connect, you can follow the steps outlined below:
It is soooo obvious guys how you over complicate things so users canât delete their account! It is sooo clear hhow you try to hold the customers making it impossible to cancel! UNBELIEVABLE. The link that you provide where it talks about a delete button. Well, there is no delete button you just can Replace the credit card, not delete, not cancel. This is something to really consider to report. Playing with the customers. Shopify sucks!
Hi there, @Cesarius . Thank you for taking the time to follow up on this thread. As per our Help Documentation on payment methods for billing, you cannot remove a payment method on file if you have only one payment method currently attached to your store. You can add an additional payment method and then remove a previously added one if you so desire.
If youâre looking to stop charges related to your Shopify Store, then youâll want to take steps to deactivate your Shopify Subscription. You will want to follow with the steps outlined in this help document here in order to deactivate your store to ensure youâre not charged by Shopify in the future. -Imogen
Am i still able to adjust the store after I deactivated it? Everything will remain if I re-open it in the future (within 2 yrs)
What options should I choose if I still want to adjust the store design/content/structure? Pause or deactivate?
Hi, @JuneNguyen . If you are hoping to view your account or make any adjustments on your shop I recommend pausing it instead of deactivating it. If your store is deactivated you are able to reactivate it, but you would need to pay a monthly subscription to do so and while it is deactivated you will not have any access to your store. If your store is paused you canât make sales, but you can still access your store to adjust what you need, and you would be paying a reduced subscripton during this time.
This indeed sounds like youâre making it purposely difficult and confusing. I am really liking the the Shopify platform, but imagine entering into a nice real-life store and then having to go through a maze in order to exit? Would that be considered ânormalâ? This might erode trust that otherwise youâd be gaining.
EDIT:
Deactivating the store was surprisingly easy once you know where things are. Maybe we just need a bit more âwayfindingâ?
Thanks
hiii there. it even we canât delete our accounts because you asked us to pay pill so we can delete ofc i will not pay ou 121 $ to delete my account . what sucks broo are kidding with us stop playing your games on us
Itâs downright sickening and outrageous how hard they make it to delete your credit or bank card. They know full well a lot of customers donât wanna be charged or want to cancel their plan. There is no âDelete Credit Card buttonâ just âReplaceâ button and they know this. Makes my blood boil and itâs not as if Shopify is some small startup company. Itâs one of the biggest on the net but look at them trying to screw their customers for every last penny. I have a degree in Computer Engineering and even Iâm finding it hard trying to figure out how to delete my credit card. But guess what ? Wanna buy yearly plan ? O my they make sure thatâs so easy even a five year old could do it. Funny that isnât it ?
Shopify Steps 1) Cancel Subscription
Login at admin > shopify
Settings
Plan
Deactivate store
Confirm
Stop charges. 2) Remove Card
If card persists add a new payment method in Settings > Billing > Replace old card > Delete old one or contact support to remove post-deactivation. 3) Delete Account
After deactivation email support@shopify.com to request data deletion citing GDPR/CCPA if needed.
If Invited
Ask the store owner to remove your access (Settings > Users and permissions) or confirm your card isnât linked.
