Here are the instructions for transferring the Shopify-managed domain to another Shopify account.

Alternatively, if you want to start a new Shopify store with a brand new domain, then you can transfer the current domain to another domain registrar and park it.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with transferring a domain, to ensure this gets resolved. To confirm I’m fully understanding, are you looking to transfer a custom domain to a new Shopify store?

If so, we can certainly complete this. As mentioned by @Nick_Marketing , I recommend checking out our Transferring Shopify-Managed Domains documentation, as it outlines the steps required to bring a custom domain purchased through Shopify to another Shopify store. To achieve this, you can:

  • Head to Settings > Domains, from the Shopify admin.
  • In the Shopify-managed domains section, click the name of the domain that you want to transfer.
  • Click Transfer domain > Transfer to another Shopify store.
  • Confirm that your store owner email address is up to date, and then click Send transfer link.
  • When you receive the transfer email message, do one of the following:
    • If you’re the other store’s owner or a staff member with the Transfer domain to another Shopify store permission, then click the transfer link in the email text and log in to the Shopify store where you want to transfer the domain.
    • If you’re not the other store’s owner or a staff member with the Transfer domain to another Shopify store permission, then forward the email message to someone who has the appropriate permission for that store.

Alternatively, you can also transfer a Shopify-managed domain to another provider (i.e GoDaddy). To complete these steps, you can check out our Transferring Shopify-Managed Domain To Another Provider documentation.

Currently only custom domains can be transferred between Shopify stores and/or domain providers. If you’re looking to bring the .myshopify.com URL to a new Shopify store, this would be a current limitation. This is due to the .myshopify.com URL being unique to each shop, but can certainly understand how that may not be ideal. For more information on this, you can check out our Domains Documentation as it goes into further detail.
