New tshirt colors from Printify show up as Sold Out

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner is experiencing an issue when adding new t-shirt color variants through Printify integration.

The Problem:

  • New colors sync from Printify but display as “Sold Out” with crossed-out options on the storefront
  • Investigation revealed new variants default to “Shop Location” instead of “Printify” as the inventory location
  • Old/existing colors correctly show “Printify” as their location

Current Workaround:

  • Manually changing each variant’s location from “Shop Location” to “Printify” resolves the display issue
  • With 5 new colors × 6 sizes each, this requires updating 30 variants manually per sync

Status:

  • The issue persists each time new colors are added and synced
  • Uncertain whether this is a Shopify or Printify integration bug
  • Community members have requested the store URL to investigate further
  • No resolution has been provided yet

I have linked my shopify store to Printify. I just created a tshirt listing on Printify and got it sync’d. Everything worked great.

I decided to add a few new colors to my listing. Each color has 6 sizes. I sync’d again. I see the mockups for new colors. I see the new colors listed in the listing on the store, but they are crossed out. When I select them, it shows Sold Out.

I looked at the inventory, for all the colors it was showing inventory is not tracked.

Upon further investigation, I noticed that for all the new colors (and each of their sizes), the location was set to “Shop Location” and for the old colors (and each size), the location was set to “Printify”.

I changed the location to Printify, and they started showing up correctly in the listing.

I removed all the new colors (and their sizes) and sync’d, and they were removed from the store listing.

I added them back in, and the same thing happened.

This is bad not just because it is wrong, it is painful because for 5 new colors and 6 sizes each, I had to update 30 variants.

Don’t know if it is the shopify problem or Printify problem. Surprisingly no one is talking about this issue, even though adding new variant should be a common operation.

Has anybody else encountered this? What can I do to prevent this?
