What causes the 'Too many redirects' error on my domain?

Topic summary

The ā€œToo many redirectsā€ error occurs when a domain is caught in a redirect loop, typically due to incorrect DNS configuration. The primary solution involves updating DNS records through the domain registrar:

Required DNS Settings:

  • Point the A [email removed] record to Shopify’s IP address: 23.227.38.65
  • Point the CNAME (www) record to shops.myshopify.com
  • Ensure only ONE A record exists (delete duplicates)

Common Issues:

  • Multiple A records pointing to different IP addresses cause random connection failures
  • Incorrect CNAME configuration (pointing to myshopify.com instead of shops.myshopify.com)
  • Domain forwarding settings interfering with DNS records

Additional Notes:

  • Shopify-purchased domains may use IP addresses ranging from 23.227.38.32 to 23.227.38.74
  • DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate
  • Some users resolved issues by clearing browser cache/cookies or reinstalling apps

Related Problems:

  • SSL certificates showing as ā€œpendingā€ after DNS configuration
  • Help Center access blocked with redirect errors (resolved by disabling VPN, clearing cache, or trying different browsers)
  • Checkout page customization blocked by redirect errors

Most cases were resolved after correcting DNS records and allowing propagation time. Several users remain awaiting assistance for persistent issues.

Hey @ulissescosta ,

I just took a look at your domain bockkitz.ch and all your DNS records are correct. Are you still facing trouble on your end?

Hi Moira I managed to work it out myself thank you for responding though

Very glad to hear! Don’t hesitate to reach back out if you require any further assistance as you continue to work on your store.

All the best,

Hi,

No. All good now. In the end what solved my issue was uninstall and install
the app again.

Thanks.

Awesome! Don’t hesitate to reach back out if you require any further assistance as you continue to work on your store.

All the best,

Hello Moira,

I am having a similar issue. My website is not working and I tried to follow the steps you mentioned above, but my website is still not working. By the way, I am using google domains if this plays a role.

My website URL is: https://yousia.myshopify.com

Looking forward to your reply.

Hey @YousiaCandles ,

I just took a look at your domain and everything appears to be in working order. Are you still facing trouble on your end?

Hello Moira,

I’m having the same issue and would like to ask if you could take a look for me. Our domain is www.SkiBags.com. I can see our A record is different than the 23.227.38.65 suggested, and we have three CNAME entries. I’m not super experienced with editing DNS records and just want to be sure I do any edits correctly.

Hey @darlenejhill .,

The domain points to Shopify. The A record is valid.
The domain has an A record pointing to 23.227.38.32.

Everything is up and running as it should be!

Side note: If you buy a domain through Shopify, or transfer your domain to Shopify, then your domain can have any of the following IP addresses:

  • 23.227.38.32
  • 23.227.38.36
  • 23.227.38.65 to 23.227.38.74

Your Shopify domain can switch between these IP addresses at any time. You can also have multiple CNAME records associated with your domain, but each one must have a unique name, such as www or shop

Hi Moira I’m having the same problem also can you help. My website: Lubernascreation.com

I have a similar issue but it doesnt say to many redirects i just happened to read it my store www.bodyhacks.myshopify.com will not show on google the generic name was supposed to be replaced with this not an additional i just unpublished all my products.

I am having a similar issue. I cannot access the help center. I keep getting errors code ā€œtoo many redirects happened trying to openā€ Failed page. I’ve been trying to ask for support for two or three days. I have some questions about finishing up store set up.

Hi @Shernandez

Can you clarify if you are having an issue loading your storefront or the Shopify Help Center? Or both?

If you are unable to access the Help Center please ensure you are not using a VPN as some VPN IPs might be blocked or restricted. Can you share some screenshots of what you are seeing and where? Happy to help once I have some more details.

Hi Shay, I have this issue when I try to go to the Help center from our store. I have been trying to resolve an issue and have not been able to access the support I need. The community discussions have not answered my questions. thank you in advance. I’ll try and include a screen shot.

Thanks for clarifying, @Shernandez ! Could you please try performing the following troubleshooting steps? Then attempt to access the Help Center after going through each one. One of these steps may fix the issue!

  • Clear the cookies and cache of your browser
  • Try a different web browser, as well as an incognito window or private browsing window to rule out any browser issues. If you are still experiencing the error using incognito, confirm you have disabled browser extensions as these can change how the pages look.
  • Ensure the web browser is up to date on the latest version.
  • Try another device, such as another computer or mobile phone.
  • Try another internet connection (switching to a cellular network on a phone rather than wifi, for example).
  • Ensure you do not have any firewalls or pop up blockers enabled on your device as these can interfere.

Let us know how it turns out. Thanks!
