Why are my product descriptions disappearing from my resale store's site?

Twice this week, I saw all the changes I made on Shopify deleted. As a resale store, we use SimpleConsign to track our inventory. Our products are entered in SimpleConsign FIRST, they are names, and sometimes have a description. They are then added to our website where I will correct any spelling error, and add description to then- be able to tag those products on our social media. We’ve been doing this for months. Add new product in SimpleConsign, take pictures, add to Shopify. Once on Shopify, Edit product title and description, show on social medias.

Earlier this week, I had the unfortunate surprise to see that ALL the changes I made to product titles and descriptions are GONE. All products titles and descriptions are now back to their original state. 260 products lost their description. 260 products cannot be tagged on social media anymore. An unknown amount went back to a misspelled title. All the details concerning our product materials, dimensions, are gone.

What happened? Was it a Shopify update or a mistake on SimpleConsign’s part? How do we fix this??

Thank you for reaching out about this issue you have experienced with your product details going missing from your product listings. That is definitely not a great thing to have happening, especially more than once.

The first thing to check is your store’s activity history. This list doesn’t capture everything that happens, but should capture changes to the product descriptions, titles and availability: Click here to sign into your store and view your account activity. You can also find your activity log in the bottom right hand corner of your store admin page. Ideally, you will be able to see who/what is making those changes to your product descriptions.

Depending on the results you get from the activity log, the next best thing to do is reach out to our live support channels so that we can escalate this to our technical team for a closer look. Our team is able to review actions taken on the store within a 14 day window of time. Please try to provide us as small a window of time as possible for review to make it easier for our team to find when the change took over. Sometimes it helps to try and recreate the issue specifically for our team to be able to track it more effectively on the backend. I had a problem that I must have had two tabs open to edit products. I rewrote all of the product description and saved it, happy with everything. That was last night.

Today, I updated other listings, then realized there were other tabs open.. one was the old version of my product description redone beautifully last night.

However, when trying to close that tab, I was asked to save or discard… I chose (stupidly) to Save… thus wiping out all of the work I did last night.

Is there anyway to see the history of that product page description to be able to copy and paste the lost text into the product page that is now back to the earlier version?
