Why can't I access my website after connecting to a third party domain?

I have connected my third-party domain to my store. It’s been more than 48 hours and I’m still unable to access my website. Can someone please help?

I can see that you have recently connected your third-party domain to your store, but still cannot use it to access your store, even after waiting 48 hours. While it is true that 48 hours is the general rule of thumb when waiting for DNS changes to propagate on domains, it can sometimes take a little bit longer.

However, I would be happy to help you troubleshoot this here. I will need a little bit more context in order to assist you accurately so if you don’t mind, providing me with the following information will be helpful:

  • Who is the domain provider?
  • Have you updated the DNS settings on the domain to reflect our requirements here.
  • Has the domain been added to your Shopify admin, and are there any error messages showing there beside the domain?
  • If you are comfortable doing so - feel free to share the domain URL and I can check it out on my side.

Which connection procedure did you use: Automatic or Manual?

If you have trouble setting up your domain automatically, then try to connect it manually from within your third-party domain provider account.

As far as I know, Shopify Support can’t access your third-party domain’s settings so you need to work with your domain provider to resolve this.

Thanks for confirming that your domain provider is Google domains.

You should be able to connect this Google domain to Shopify automatically by following our guide here. This will be the easiest and most straightforward way to connect the domain to your store.

If you have connected this domain to Shopify manually, then you will need to ensure that the DNS settings on the domain have been updated to reflect the following:

  • Point the A Record to the Shopify IP address of 23.227.38.65
  • Change the www CNAME record to shops.myshopify.com

As @AvadaCommerce has mentioned, we have no way of accessing your third party domain settings, so we can only go off whatever information you can provide to us. With that said, more context will be needed in order to help you out here. Just in case you missed them, here are the questions I asked above which will be helpful when trying to troubleshoot this with you:

  • Have you updated the DNS settings on the domain to reflect our requirements as explained above.
  • Has the domain been added to your Shopify admin, and are there any error messages showing there beside the domain?
  • If you are comfortable doing so - feel free to share the domain URL and I can check it out on my side.
