Why does my new website show a server error when creating a domain?

Hello, I just opened up my new website and I was trying to create a domain. Every time I want to buy one it says “SERVER ERROR” and I tried clearing my cookies and even restarting my computer. I also tried off my phone. Nothing works. Please let me know what I can do. Thank you.

Hi, @Orel1 .

Thanks for reaching out and posting to the Shopify Community.

We’re sorry to hear you’re running into issues when trying to purchase a domain.

For better clarity, could you share a screenshot of the error message that appears? A second step I recommend is checking the availability of the domain through ICANN Lookup.

Additionally, when entering your contact information can you ensure that the phone number entered is formatted as country code followed by a dot (.) then the phone number?

Once we receive a screenshot and a bit more context on the issue, I’ll be happy to further investigate.

There could be a few different reasons why you’re encountering a “SERVER ERROR” message when trying to buy a domain for your Shopify store.

Some potential causes include:

The Shopify server is currently experiencing high traffic or technical difficulties.
There is an issue with your internet connection.
The domain you’re trying to register is already taken.
There is a problem with your payment method.
