Hey there! I am trying to set up Shopify Gift Card for United States Market. Our Shopify Store operates in CAD. We set up a CAD gift card before and it works as it should. The problem appears when it comes to USD gift cards. If a person buys a USD gift card they receive an email that shows the currency of the gift card in CAD. Is there any way around it? For example editing code in the “Gift Card Confirmation” notification section? Thank you!
The screenshot below is the gift card email, that a customer receives after purchasing a $25 USD gift card. $33.98 is its initial local currency value in CAD. Again, the problem is why a person receives CAD value after purchasing in USD.
Hi @bhonchar - I realize this is two years old, but wanted to share a solution for anybody facing this in the future.
As far as I know, the only way to have multi-currency gift card notifications sent to customers and recipients in the currency they selected is to use a gift card app that has true multi-currency support.
The Givy app does exactly this. Here’s the customer experience:
They see gift card denominations in their selected currency (ie. $100USD for US, €100EUR for Europe)
They pay in the currency they selected
All notifications are sent using the currency they selected
The ‘check balance’ page shows the balance in their currency
The gift card’s balance gets updated every hour based on currency conversions
The customer spends the gift card in the currency they selected
It’s a great way to actually offer gift cards in multiple currencies while still dealing with Shopify’s limitation that all cards on your store are created in the default currency.
