Whomever reads this, the content of this message is for the Shopify UX & Development teams.
I’m posting this to express my concern regarding the recent changes made to the backend Shopify platform. As a UX designer myself, I’ve noticed some concerning changes that make the usage of your software cumbersome and, in some cases, down right head scratching.
For example, reports. Prior to the recent redesign, the reports section used to contain sub-categories of different report types along with a helpful infographic or visual that related to the subject. Using this format, I could easily find the type of report I wanted and navigate to it with ease.
Now, the report section is just a long text list. No graphics. No grouping by report type. Not only is it visually boring, it now takes me more time to find the report I need.
The reason I’m reaching out today is because of the recent filtering change made to the Orders page. I used to use the ‘Unfulfilled’ filter button at the top of the page to quickly show only the orders that I need to fulfill. Now, it is a button that doesn’t actually filter anything. ALL the orders still appear when applying the ‘Filter’. I now have no way to actually filter out orders I don’t want to see. The only way for me to isolate any list of orders according to a specific attribute, I must use the sort function instead. Even then, all of the unfulfilled orders that have been voided still appear.
Whatever you’ve done with the filtering on the Orders page, please, please, please, revert back to what it was. I now have to train my staff on how to properly use the orders page to ensure we don’t miss any orders.
I’d also be curious as to how these decisions to make changes get made. Are the UX designers running usability tests with actual Shopify customers? I don’t expect an answer, but I’d really like to know how and why these changes are made.
Thank you,
~Brian
